GeologyRocks Community Help
The community is made up of forums, blogs and polls. Only registered users can participate fully. Unregistered users can vote on polls or read the forums and blogs - you must register to participate fully. The community section also contains our member list, which you must be registered to see.
Forums
The forum is split into three main sections: the site, geology, off-topic. Within each section there are several forums in which people post new topics. When posting a new topic, please try and put it in the right section. Don't worry if you get it wrong though - a moderator will move it for you.
The latest news forum contains short news snippets. You should not copy and paste the whole article from news websites into here; this breaches copyright. Instead post a link to the page in question. If you want to give a more detailed overview of a news story, perhaps with links from several sources, then please submit a news article instead. The difference between a news article and post in the latest news forum is simply one of length - for news articles, we only accept articles that are well written and give a concise summary of the news in question - in the forum a simple link is good!
To format your forums posts and comments, you can use the easy to use built-in editor, which is the same used around the rest of the site.
More information on using the forum can be found on the forum help pages.
Blogs
A blog (short for weblog) is a series of personal posts that are arranged in reverse chronological order. Each blog post can be commented on by other users. The blogs on GeologyRocks are a chance for our users to blog on their geological - what's their latest research interest, where did they last go and do field work - and non-geological lives. There are no real rules for blog content, but anything not deemed acceptable by the site moderators will be removed.
More information on using blogs can be found on the blog help pages.
Polls
Ever wondered what people on the site thought about a topic? If so, post a poll. You can ask a question, create a number of different answers and people will vote on them. Again, people can comment on the poll question.
